Is toothpaste ok for tile floor filler?
There's this area in my house that has holes (It's in tile for the floor). If I put tooth paste in the holes and let it harden is it a good floor filler to put new tile over it?

- And you have considered it may attract insects? I'm very certain you could find a better inexpensive product at any hardware store.
- Not even on a Tuesday, toothpaste is for brushing your teeth. Go to Home Depot and ask.
- It's never a good idea to cover tile with tile. Not a good idea to use toothpaste either, for filling holes. If you're putting down new tile, tear out the old and make sure the surface that is left, is as smooth as possible, then put down thinset. It generally comes in white or gray, then apply the tile. If you have something like travertine tiles that has 'pits' in it and you want them filled, get some grout that is close to the same color and fill them in.
- No, check out my web site , How to re-grout floor tile.
- It will not matter a bit. I think you mean some small holes in a regular piece of ceramic tile? The main concern here is getting a proper base for the new tile to adhere to and that there are no soft spots. You may have to sand off the glaze of the old tiles to get the new thinset to adhere well. The small holes will just fill with the thinset when you are laying the new tile.
