What exactly is the difference between house music and techno?

I recently started listening to Daft Punk (I've only heard two or three songs so far). Being a jazz fan usually, I was wondering what the specific difference is between house music (which Wikipedia classifies Daft Punk as) and techno (the more generic term I've heard applied to them).

  1. House music is funky, loose, relatively slow, often includes piano, and has a generally laid-back feel. The beat usually follows a pattern of "doomp, doomp, duh-doomp, doomp". Techno, however, is faster, tighter, uses minimal synth, and often includes German robots saying random stuff that nobody can understand, but nevertheless sounds cool, and much of the focus is on rhythm.
